The region occupying the western India is the plateau of volcanic origin in the western par of Madhya Pradesh state is the Malwa. This also covers the south east part of Rajasthan. This region had a separate political unit since the time of Aryan until 1947. The majority part of this place is shattered by the Chambal River and its tributaries, and the western part is worn out by Mahi River. In ancient times Ujjain was the capital and at present Indore is the capital of Malwa.
